If you’re in the process of submitting your book to agents then this post is perfect for you.
In an ideal world, the journey to getting an agent is full of roses and has no thorns in sight. And actually, it can be straightforward and pain-free for some people, but for other authors the agent journey is thorny, prickly and draws blood more than once.
- You are either waiting to hear back from agents which could takes weeks or months
- You are dealing with rejections.
- You never hear back from them at all which often feels even worse than getting a rejection
If this is you, or you are about to hit send and start submitting, then here’s some advice from Bear for you:
Will every agent love your book?
Will some agents ignore you?
Will some agents just send you a standard rejection?
Will any of the above hurt you?
Yes, that’s normal. (All my rejections have stung.)
Will any of the above hurt you SO much you will NEVER be able to do ANYTHING EVER AGAIN BECAUSE THE PAIN IS THAT GREAT AND YOU WILL STAY BED-RIDDEN IN ANGST FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?
I can’t answer for you, but surely unlikely.
Will you get some full manuscript requests?
Will you get an agent who takes you on?
Will the above journey take you out of your comfort zone?
Will the above journey stretch you, allow you to move from the place you are now and take you one stop closer toward your dreams?
Yes. Any action equals movement.
Will it be one exciting journey of adventure?
Will sending the book to agents, even though you are shit-scared, help you to discover your Bear roar?
YES. YES and YES again!
